The decision to Apple’s XGrid system was taken in the
wake of Sony’s decision to cease
support for linux as operating system on PS3
systems, which are extensively used at CU
CPS’s HPC facility.
XGrid offers the added advantages of utilizing CU’s installed base of Mac OS X systems as well as the current PS3 linux systems for high performance computing (HPC).

If you need to convert a translation memory
from one format to another (e.g. trados to
wordfast or vice versa) the department for Computational Linguistics
at CU will more than likely be able to perform the
task for you.
This service should help many freelance translators and translation agencies to be able to keep using the translation memories that they have build up over time, no matter what tm tool the use. It will also be easier to select vendors, which use another tools than yourself.

The newly established Vocational Training Center at CU
(CU VTC) will shortly be offering certification in
vocational activities. The initial aim is to offer
certification to people with considerable amounts
of practical experience in a vocation.
The certification can be sought by individuals independently of geographical location because the vetting of the trainee is done by video, as well as by sitting an online exam in the chosen field.
Once again CU is breaking the mould of educational habit. Links to the offered certifications will be added shortly.

Datacenter moves

News
In our constant effort to secure better service and at
the same time optimize our facilities we now move the
datacenter (again). The process has already begun and
we expect it to be completed at the end of November
2007. This means that our servers will be disconnected
for a short while.
The servers for web/email/telephones wil be moving location on Friday the 30th of November 2007, the move will coincide with other maintenance work and it is expected that the servers will be down/unavailble for 24 hours.
The datacenter has now moved to its new location, but it is running without mail and phone services for the time being. All mail to CU's servers is being rerouted to the alternative email addresses for students and staff. We expect this situation to last until the beginning of the next week.
Since we cannot be contacted by phone or e-mail we suggest that you leave a message by using the contact page.

Press
Cotman University Press is allowing
students and staff an easy way to publish their
papers, reports and books etc. thru the university
press, that is not new.
We believe that many students will have interesting material that might not even be science or study related and it is our hope that this material will find its way to the public.
We will publish the usual university related material but also fiction and Podcasts in the future.

Tanks
Cotman University is now in the phase of setting up
think tanks in the following fields:
Global Politics
Global Environment
Global Business
The think tanks are to map the past and link it to the present, as well as propose opposing what-if scenarios for the future.
The think tanks are not to work with idealism but to forecast as precisely as possible the development within each segment.
In this connection we need research volunteers. This is an ideal opportunity for anyone interested it these subjects and who is familiar with academic work methods to contribute.
Interested parties should send us an email from the contact page with the name of the think tank they want to join in the subject line.
